How We’ll Do It: Today
pkDO Pilot Program to Increase Anonymous Live Kidney Donation
pkDO will work in collaboration with Renewal.org in order to expand their successful process and procedures to kick-off a Pilot Program with the University of Utah Health.
• Renewal.org has already proven Live Kidney Donation from anonymous donors can be increased significantly with a strong community-based approach and additional resources to assist with outreach, education and VIP services for Donors.
Our founder, Richard Kellner with pkDO’s champion at UofU, Brian Davis. We are grateful to Brian for embracing our mission And all of his efforts to make it a reality.
> Renewal.org is responsible for over 800 anonymous kidney donations, growing at close to 200/year (pre-covid) which is a meaningful percentage of anonymous donations nationwide.
• The entire transplant team leadership at UofUhas been engaged in evaluating Renewal’s model and acknowledges these are services the institution should be providing.
• To get this off the ground quickly, PKDowill provide the funding for a three-year trial for dedicated staff and resources to provide services similar toRenewal.
• Once the trial proves to be successful in increasing live donor transplant, the charitable funding will be replaced by sustainable funding by UofU.
• The UofUpilot will then serve as a template for other transplant centers around the country to add these services.
